Williams, known for his blitzing run in the sprints, implored the young athletes to use track and field and sports in general, as part of their personal development.

He also advised them to “cry now” as the returns for their efforts will be rewarding in the future.

Williams told the audience sports can take them around the world and can result in long-lasting friendships, which can be beneficial in the long run.

The pep talk formed part of the club’s programme, in which members are encouraged to get mentors.

The session with Williams culminated the club’s Christmas vacation camp.

However, members of the club will continue their programme with training sessions daily.
