The 2012 champions in the SVG General Services Christmas Junior Tennis Tournament were crowned Saturday at the Grassroot Tennis Club (GTC) at the Haddon Hotel courts at Murrayâs Road.{{more}}
Taking the boysâ Under-6 was Che Connell. The Under-8 boysâ champion was Rio Connell, as both brothers claimed titles for the GTC.
The Under-8 girlsâ champion, Zariah Jack, a student of the St Maryâs Roman Catholic School, is also a product of the GTCâs primary schools programme.
And claiming the other title for the host club was Akeil De Roche, who pouched the Under-10 boysâ category.
Anastacia White of the X- Cel Tennis Academy secured the Under-10 girlsâ champion title.
Alexander Cyrus of the Bonan Tennis School claimed the boysâ Under-12 and Gabrielle Benn, the girlsâ Under-12 titles.
Benn of the X- Cel Tennis Academy went on to win the girls Under-14 title and was adjudged the tournamentâs most promising female participant.
Richard Akcayli, who resides in Barbados, won the boys Under-14.
Riley Delaney, who also resides in Barbados, was named the most promising male.
Tournament director Trevor Sam did the adjudications.
Head of the GTC Grant Connell stated that he welcomed the participation of the other clubs, but called for more of the barriers that have been erected to be dismantled.
The Christmas junior tournament was the 11th event put on by the GTC during the calendar year, filling the void left by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association.
At last Saturdayâs closing ceremony, one minute was observed for the school massacre in the US state of Connecticut. (RT)
