Rocksdale takes Arnos Vale football title

Rocksdale of Redemption Sharpes defeated General Hardware Supplies Richmond Hill 3-1 Sunday at Arnos Vale Two Playing Field to take the 2012 Hairoun Beer Comsports Arnos Vale League.{{more}}

The heavy shower during the match did not dampen the teams’ spirits.

A goal apiece from Deomaji Samuel, Jahmol Seales and Orlando Browne gave Rocksdale the title, and the $1,200 cash prize.

Deptor Culzac scored for Richmond Hill, which left the venue with $800 and a trophy.

In reaching the finals, Rocksdale saw off Computec Vincy Masters 3-1 and Richmond Hill stopped System 3 1- nil.

Vincy Masters took the third spot and the $500 at stake, as System 3 did not show up for the intended third place play-off on Saturday.

Powa Lynx won Zone A and System3, Zone B.

Both received a football as their awards Deomaji Samuel was the leading goal scorer with 14 goals and 13-year-old Devon Samuel of System 3 was presented with a pair of football boots, as he was adjudged the competition’s most promising player.

Speaking at the brief presentation ceremony, chair of the Arnos Vale Football League, Michael John said the 2012 edition had served its objective as being a developmental league, as several young players were given the opportunity to show off their skills.

He also praised the conduct of the players for their high level of discipline displayed throughout the duration of the competition.

John singled out the executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation for assisting the league, through the provisions of the goalposts and nets as well as the marking of the field from time to time. (RT)
