Hoping to get the crown of the singles champion are some of this countryâs top and budding players, some who are just out of the junior category and who are on tennis scholarships overseas.
The tournament was officially opened last Monday afternoon, with Silky Da Silva making the first serve, and engaging in a brief rally with Kyle De Freitas.
The tournament sees the sixteen players stashed into four groups of equal number.
In the Vitara group are Khir Huggins, Charles Findlay, Reece Daniel and Ronnie Richardson, with Rafai Bentick, Kevin Huggins, Jonathan Perry and Dilshorn Peters contesting the Swift group.
Kyle De Freitas, Wally Mc Kie, Akeem Guy and Jârai Joyette-Da Silva are drawn in the Celerio group, with Grant Connell, Kurtley Jack, Agostini Soleyn and Imani King looking for honours from the SX4 group.
Emerging from the groups will be the top eight players who will go forth to the elimination stage.
Also planned is a knock-out doubles competition among the players.
Trophies and medals will be distributed to top finishers.
Tomorrowâs planned closing should see a display by the sponsors, as well as live music.
Following on the heels of the menâs open singles, there will be a sponsored doubles tournament, set for early September.(RT)
