Zefal Bailey outlasts small field in cycling race

Displaying youthful exuberance, Zefal Bailey sped away from the small field of three cyclists in lap nine, to win the Barefoot Yachts 40 mile road race,{{more}} put on by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union, last Sunday afternoon.

Bailey clocked two hours 24 minutes 0.07 seconds in the 10-lap event, which rode off at Howards Marine at Villa Flat to the Roundabout at Arnos Vale, then to Ratho Mill, which formed the circuit.

Second was Shimano Bailey, the elder brother of Zefal. Shimao’s time was two hours 30 minutes 55 seconds and third was Lucky Antrobus in two hours 30 minutes 56 seconds.

Albert Quammie, who also started the race, fell by the wayside in the fifth lap.

Notable absentee from the race was Cammie Adams, who in the recent weeks had put together a string of good performances.

Adams was unable to compete in last Sunday’s race because of a mechanical problem with his bike.

The road racing season takes a break for the next three weeks and should resume in the latter part of August. (RT)
