Diamond Football Competition in line for more support
More support is in line for the Karib Cable Diamond Village Football Competition, as persons and organizations are throwing their weight behind the organizers, the Diamonites Community Orgainization.{{more}}
At the Opening Ceremony of the second edition of the competition, last Sunday at the Diamond Village Playing Field, Nelson Hillocks, speaking on behalf of his sister, the founder of the SVG Practical Training Institute, stated that in time to come, this new organization will assume the title sponsorship of the Diamond Football Competition.
âThis organization will be launched soon in a grand way, and one of the first assignments is to partner with the progressive youths of Diamonites and sponsor the tournament,â Hillocks revealed.
Hillocks mentioned that already, the SVG Practical Institute has had an input in the 2012 competition.
Putting on his hat as the Director of Physical Education and Sports, Hillocks said that his department, through the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, will continue to assist the Diamonites Community Organization.
âThe Ministry has Mr Julian Small working with the organizers of this tournament and we are pledging and will continue to pledge material and other support to this tournament, and as I am a Diamonite, I myself will help to enhance the tournamentâ, Hillocks added.
Also giving similar expressions of support was President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation, Vennold Coombs.
Coombs, who preceded Hillocks in giving remarks at last Sundayâs opening, said: âWe are giving a lot of things in regard to Football and we are not going to leave out Diamond in terms of materials, and I want the organizers to know also that we will always help Diamond in whatever way possible; we donât discriminate.â
Apart from Karib Cable and the SVG Practical Training Institute, other support for the 2012 competition is coming from the St Vincent Brewery Ltd.
Following the opening ceremony, the large crowd which turned out at the venue was treated to a 2-2 tie in the featured match, which pitted the St Vincent and the Grenadines Under-20 training squad against a select team from the competition.
Seventeen teams are trying to prevent inaugural champions Dem Boys from Mespo from making it two in a row.
Among them are Brighton All Stars, Jar Plum Highlanders One, Sea Operations Greiggs, Busta All Stars, Diamond Attackers, Glenside United, Downstreet, South Rivers United and Carib Warriors are locked in Zone A.
With Dem Boys of Mespo in Zone B are SLR Royal Saints, DESCO, Je Belle, Vintage FC, Bay Road, Jar Plum Highlanders Two, Owia Shotters and Choppins United.
Except for Mondays, matches in the competition will be scheduled for the Diamond Playing Field. (RT)
