SVG reaps moderate success in OECS Invitational
St Vincent and the Grenadines raked in moderate success last weekend in the OECS Invitational Track and Field Meet which was held at the Silver Jubilee Stadium in St Kitts.{{more}}
Headlining the Vincentiansâ efforts were Kineke Alexander and Nadia Alexander, who copped the Womenâs 400 m and Womenâs Shot Putt respectively.
Kineke Alexander clocked 53.27 seconds to win her event, while Nadia Alexander was the best in the Shot Putt with a toss of 15.8 m.
The pair of Courtney Bascombe and Courtney Williams was second and third in that order, in the 200 m Menâs Pool B dash.
Bascombeâs time was 21.52 seconds and Williams returned a time of 21.60 seconds to take the bronze.
Williams also placed third in the Menâs Pool B of the 100 m, in a time of 10.76 seconds. Bascombe and Kenroy Cupid were the other Vincentians who competed in that race and ended fifth and sixth respectively.
Brandon Parris clocked 1 minute 56.31 seconds and finished third in the Menâs 800 m, with another Vincentian, Kasique Oliver, coming in sixth.
Also placing third was Yurnic Nanton, whose time in the 400m Menâs dash was 50.07 seconds.
The quartet of Courtney Williams, Courtney Bascombe, Yurnic Nanton and Kenroy Cupid placed fourth in the Menâs 4×400 m Relay, in a time of 43.14 seconds.
The Vincentian contingent was using the OECS Invitational to fine tune their performances ahead of upcoming international events.
Among the top participants in the OECS was Kittian Kim Collins, a former Commonwealth and World Championships 100 m gold medallist.
At the 2012 OECS Invitational, Collins sped to a 10.09 seconds win in the 100 m Menâs Pool A. (RT)
