Johnson bowls West Indies A to series leveller
Vincentian left-arm fast bowler Dellorn Johnson and Veerasammy Permaul combined to help West Indies A steamroll India A, last Tuesday morning, here at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, as the regional heirs recorded a massive victory in the Second four-day âtestâ.{{more}}
India A, in search of 220 for a series clincher, never got there, as Johnson bowled with pace and bounce, to end with a career-best 6 for 34, off 17 overs.
Johnson had routed the top order last Monday afternoon, with four wickets, with the visitors left tottering at 57 for 4. He continued his destruction on Tuesday morning with another two scalps.
Left-arm spinner and Captain Veerasammy Permaul took 4 for 22, as India A fell for 94.
West Indies won by 125 runs and levelled the three-match series 1-1.
Tiwaryâs 20 proved to be the best for India A, as they were undermined by the pace/spin combination.
West Indies had batted first and scored 217. Opening batsman Kraigg Braithwaite topped with 66. Permaul hit 38 and Kyle Corbin 36.
Dinda 2 for 22, Rahul Sharma 2 for 31 and Ahmen 2 for 43, were the most successful bowlers for the visitors.
India A in response, was dismissed for 202. Cheteshwar Pujara made 67 and Rahul Sharma 30. Permaul claimed 5 for 58 and Johnson 2 for 32.
Batting a second time, West Indies A posted 204, all out.
Leading the batting was Jonathan Carter who made 74 and Donovan Pagon who contributed 67, as Darekar snapped up 6 for 67 and Rohit Sharma 2 for 47.
Both teams will be trying to take the three-match series, when the final engagement between the two starts tomorrow, Saturday, at the Beausejour Cricket Stadium in St Lucia. (RT)
