Diamonites Football Competition opens this weekend
The Diamonites Community Organization will launch the 2012 Diamond Village Football Competition on Sunday, June 17, at 3:00 p.m. at the Diamond Village Playing Field.{{more}}
The opening day march past will feature seventeen teams from the Windward side of the island, vying for the championship trophy from Cane End United. The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and local area representative Saboto Ceasar will offer words of encouragement, joined by the Ministry of Sports, St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation, and sponsor Karib Cable. The march past will be followed by a football game featuring the National Under-20 Football Team and the Richland Park under 20 Football Team.
A release from the Diamonites Community Organization said the group seeks to unite the community and increase spirit and pride through sporting activities.
âTeam sports, such as football, have a positive impact on the lives of youth in the Windward side of the island by promoting values of sportsmanship, discipline, dedication, and teamwork. The Diamond Village Football Competition seeks to advance team sports and promote the game of football in rural communities,â the release said.
