Cane End made it four in a row when they defeated Richland Park 3-2 on penalties to take the league title last Sunday afternoon in the Carib Biabou Nine-A-Side Football Competition at the Biabou Playing Field.{{more}}
It was the second time both teams were facing each other in two months in a final, having locked horns in the league decider National Lotteries Authority Marriaqua Sports Association Village Competition in April.
In that encounter, Cane End came out triumphant.
But in Sundayâs finals, the stakes were different, as Richland Park had intentions of stopping Cane Endâs rule.
It was veteran player, Alwyn âPorpeyâ Guy, who made good of an Orande James pass in the 27th minute to open the scoring for Cane End.
James had earlier made a mess of an opportunity to score and add to his personal tally.
Cane End had a scare midway in the second half, as a Julian Mc Nicholls free kick agonisingly hit the crossbar.
Mc Nicholls was to go one better as he levelled the match deep into the second half, with a goal in the 75th minute.
The match was then down to kicks from the penalty spot; but, as they did when both teams met in similar situation two months ago, Cane End prevailed and was crowned champions of the Biabou League for the fourth straight year.
For their efforts, Cane End pocketed $1,200 and Richland Park $800.
Copping the third place was Choppins No Nonsense, who collected $600.
Choppins also copped the Knockout title, ahead of Greiggs.
Among the individual awards, Richland Parkâs Cosmore Toney was, for another time, voted the Best Goal Keeper; Rodney Lawrence of Unique Warriors was adjudged the Best Defender; and Yurick Child of Carib Warriors, the Best Midfielder.
Orande James of Cane End was the top goal scorer with his 14 goals. The Most Valuable Player of the competition was Alistair Williams of Richland Park. South Rivers was voted the Most Disciplined Team.(RT)
