WIPED OUT
Defending Division One champions of the Digicel National Club Netball Tournament Western Union Mitres have all but retained their crown, as they march to a likely hat-trick of titles.{{more}}
In the feature match of the top flight of local Netball, which was played last Wednesday evening, Mitres cruised past arch-rivals Vita Malt Maple, to virtually win the 2012 title.
Lacking the pre match hype as in previous years, the Netball die-hards still made their way to the Kingstown Netball Centre to be part of the final outcome.
Played in some drizzly conditions, Mitres did the early running and took the first quarter 13-9.
Mitres extended the lead to five goals by the end of the second quarter, as they led 26-21.
The crucial third quarter saw Maple coming within touching distance; however, Mitres finished in the ascendancy 39-35.
The final quarter was similar to the third, but Mitres ran away with the match 51-46 at the final whistle, and with almost certainty, the Division One title.
For Mitres, Gailene Gordon sank 39 of her 49 attempts and Shellisa Davis registered 12 of her 24.
Goal Shooter Skiddy Francis-Crick poured in 42 of her 46 attempts and her Goal Attack, Thelma Foster, made good 4 of her five attempts at scoring.(RT)
