Facing the previously unbeaten Mattafix Playaz, Calliaqua had no problem in dismissing their opponents, 84-74.
In a match punctuated by some physical aggression, Calliaqua led in all quarters, establishing a ten-point lead at the end of the first, 26-16.
Playaz cut the deficit by two at the end of the second, but Calliaqua held the upper hand at 46-38, by the half mark. It was 64-59 at the end of the third quarter, still in favour of Calliaqua, who romped home in the end to what turned out to be a comfortable victory.
The defeat on Playaz meant that all three top teams had lost to one another.
In earlier matches, Playaz beat Bequia and Bequia had beaten Calliaqua.
Playaz finished second and Bequia third, according to the competitionâs rules.
With the first round out of the way, it is now play-off time, to see who will be crowned the 2012 Basketball champions.
The play-offs begin this week, also at the New Montrose Basketball facility. (RT)
