The St Vincent and the Grenadines team lost 1-3 to the visiting Liverpool Football Academy of England in their one off match last Wednesday afternoon at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.
But Morris, who was overseeing his first match at a national level, told SEARCHLIGHT at the end of the match, âThis was a good opportunity for us to see the players who are preparing for the tournament coming up in June, and in life to learn from your mistakes, your losses, more than your victories.â
Morris, a former youth and senior national footballer, contended that the team had little time to gel, as scaling down the invitees to a manageable proportion, consumed the preparation time available.
However, Morris felt that the players played commendably in the circumstances.
The host did most of the early running, and should have scored early in the match, but Captain Myron Samuel did not make good of a pass delivered to him by Oalex Anderson.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines team then went bend in the 17th minute.
Jack Anthony Dunn found acres of space on the right side and picked his spot, and beat Jovan Lynch in the hostâs goal.
The visitors though, were bearing down the Vincentiansâ right side, but were unable to extend their tally, as the half ended 1-0 in their favour.
Jerome Terrence Sinclair ended a move in the 56th minute, as the Liverpool players practically walked the ball into the Vincentians goal.
In minute 77, John Mukendi rifled a shot that beat Lynch at the near post.
The Vincentians got their consolation goal in injury time, when Myron Samuel earned a foul in the penalty area, and scored from the spot.
It was second time for Samuel, who also scored a penalty in Liverpoolâs inaugural visit last year, when they beat the Vincentians 4-1.
Morris though, held the view that his team played a better second half, despite conceding two goals.
âAs the game went on and we start making changes, we started to get a little bit more chemistry and put together a lot of passes, which caused a bit a danger in the Liverpool team,â Morris observed.
This the second occasion on which the Liverpool outfit is visiting St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Simon Taylor, Chief Operations Officer at Harlequin groups, said at a post match press conference on Wednesday, that plans are in train to make it an annual event.
Yesterday, four schools, the Kingstown Anglican, the St Maryâs R C, the St Martinâs Secondary and the Bishopâs College Kingstown were slated to be visited by the Liverpool players.
Additionally, a one hour session with students from the four schools, was planned for the Victoria Park.
Tomorrow, Saturday, students from the Buccament Bay Secondary School, the Du Bois Government, the Clare Valley Government and the Questelles Government will have a morning coaching session with the players at the football field at the Buccament Bay Resort.
The Liverpool Under-18 team leaves May 14. (RT)
