Two Vincentians awarded in NORCECA Volleyball showpiece
Two Vincentians were in winners row last Sunday evening, when the NORCECA Menâs First Round of Group B of the 2014 World Championships Qualification Tournament concluded at the Beausejour Indoor Facility in St Lucia.{{more}}
Stepping up to the podium to receive awards were Marlon Williams and Cleuvvan Cumberbatch.
Williams, who played in the Libero position, scooped two trophies.
He was the tournamentâs Best Receiver, in addition to being the Best Digger.
Cumberbatch copped the award of the Best Blocker.
The awards ceremony was dominated by the host team St Lucia, who won the gold medal. Joseph Clercent was named the Most Valuable Player. The dreadlock styled Clercent also was named the tournamentâs Best Scorer and the Best Spiker.
Completing the St Lucian domination were Benson Tertullien, who copped the Best Libero award, Kaji Charles named the Best Server; Servin Mungroo, also of St Lucia, was the Best Setter.
St Lucia emerged champions, with St Vincent and the Grenadines second; Grenada was third and St Eustatius fourth in the four-team competition.
The three top places advance to the second phase of the qualifiers, scheduled for 2013. (RT)
