Layou, Bagga to contest grand Football Final
Neighbours and arch Football rivals will renew their battle this Sunday evening at the Victoria Park, when the Senior Division of the Hairoun Invitational Inter Community League Competition stages its grand finale.{{more}}
The two earned the right to meet each other with wins last Wednesday night in the semi finals.
Layou first up came away with a hard fought 2-1 triumph over a spirited Calliaqua outfit.
A 10th minute deft strike from Myron Samuel gave Layou the one nil lead.
Shandell Samuel doubled the tally in the 55th minute with a well taken header.
Leslo Mc Kenzie cut the deficit in the 60th minute, when he waded his way through the Calliaqua defence to head home the ball.
In the second semi final, Barrouallie got past Gloja Central Kingstown 2-0, in a scrappy affair.
However, Oalex Andersonâs brace added some light to the dour proceedings.
The upcoming striker first used his vision to chip a ball past Kingstownâs goalkeeper, Ossie Dennie in the 48th minute, making good of a lethargic Kingstown defence.
Then in the 69th minute, Anderson was at the end of a Jomo Toppin cross from the right side, and bolted his right foot shot in the back of the net.
Layou, the lone unbeaten team in the competition had steamed rolled their way to this stage with Barrouallie being one of their many casualties in the preliminary phase,
In the elimination round, Layou thrashed Arnos Vale seven goals to nil in the quarter finals.
Barrouallie in their quarter final match up with Bequia came out two nil winners.
And to emphasise Layouâs dominance in Football here, they are also in two other finals, also slated for Sunday.
In the Under-13 finals, Layou meets Central Kingstown and in the Under-17 final, Layou and Barrouallie also contest the championship game of that age group.
At stake in Sundayâs Senior Final is a $10,000 pay out to the winner, with the second place earning $6,000 and the third place receiving $3,000.
In the Under-17 Division, the winner gets $5,000, the runner up $3,000 and the third place $1,000.
The Under-13âs, apart from trophies, will get vouchers for educational material for the new school year.
Sundayâs afternoon of finals begin at 4:00 pm with the Under-13 final, followed by the Under-17, then the senior final.
The third place playoffs in both the Under-17 and Senior Division take place today Friday, beginning at from 4:30 pm with the age group bronze match, also set for the Victoria Park. (RT)
