Cane End takes MSA Village Football title

Cane End Gunners pouched the 2012 National Lotteries Authority Marriaqua Sports Association Village Competition at the Cane End Playing Field last Sunday afternoon.{{more}}

It took a penalty shoot out to decide the winners of the $1,200 first prize and the bragging rights until the next competition comes around.

Orande James had put Gunners in front in the first round of the match. In the second half, Julian Mc Nichols made his presence felt almost immediately when he equalized

A Dwight Allen free kick put Cane End Gunners back in the ascendancy.

That lead was short lived as Mc Nicholls had another say, netting the equalizer, to send the match into penalty kicks.

In the nervy spot kicks, Cane End Gunners prevailed 4-3, to send their supporters in glee.

The third place play off which took place on Saturday, Freeland blanked P’tani Masters 5-0.

Following last Sunday’s final, the Presentation and Closing Ceremony took place.

There were individual awards for the outstanding players in each department

In the Senior Division, the Best Goal Keeper was Cosmore Toney of Richland Park, with Randy Archibald of Downstreet United, the Best Defender. J’var Francis of Cane End Gunners was declared the Best Midfielder and Alistair Williams of Richland Park United, the Best Striker. Williams knocked in seventeen goals.

In the Youth Division, Freeland’s Rudolph Richardson was voted the Best Goal Keeper.

Richland Park Youths dominated the other departmental awards. Rayshawn Douglas was voted the Best Defender, and the Best Midfielder award went to Orlando Trimmingham. The Best Striker was adjudged to be Damien Richardson., who scored on nine occasions

Copping the Most Disciplined Team award was Richland Park Youths, to add with their winning of the League Competition.

Freeland Youths won the Youth Division Knock Out and Down Street took the senior Knock Out title. (RT)
