Glasgow’s passing is a great loss to cricket, says John

Chief Executive Officer of the Windward Island Cricket Board Lennox John says the cricketing fraternity has been dealt a heavy blow with the passing of one of this country’s stalwarts of the game, Carl Glasgow.{{more}}

Glasgow, who once served as an executive member of the St Vincent Cricket Association and Secretary of the Windward Islands Board, was laid to rest on Friday, March 30, in the yard of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Georgetown.

The attorney passed away on March 22, after battling a long illness.

“This is a great loss not only to cricket, but to St Vincent and the Grenadines on a whole. Carl was a man outside of cricket…,” John related.

John said Glasgow brought a lot to the Windward Islands Cricket Board with his talent as an administrator and career in the legal field.

“He was a manager of many of the players on the Windward Islands today. He helped in building these guys’ confidence and made sure that they were properly taken care of. This is definitely a great loss,” John expressed.

Ian Allen, coach of the Windward Islands senior cricket team, also shared John’s sentiments. “This is really a great loss for cricket in this country,” Allen said.

Allen recalled that in the early 1980’s, he was on the Windward Islands cricket team, which was managed by Glasgow.

“I think the knowledge he would have gained over the years representing St Vincent and St Lucia on the regional level, helped me and a lot of others. What he brought to the game will surely be missed,” Allen related.

Allen also described Glasgow as a man that was always approachable and ready to lend a helping hand.
