West Indies A wins ODI series

The West Indies A recorded a 2-0 win over their Bangladeshi counterparts in the unofficial three One Day International series, played here at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, with the other match,{{more}}which was set for last Sunday, being rained out without a ball being bowled.

The regional side began their domination of the series last Wednesday with a four-wicket triumph.

The visitors batted first and made 182 for 8 off their 50 overs, with Faruque making 83 not out.

Carlos Brathwaite, who made his international debut on the recent West Indies tour to Bangladesh, took 2 for 25, with his medium-fast bowling.

Jason Holder, a member of the Sagicor High Performance Centre, had figures of 2 for 42.

The West Indies then responded with 184 for 6, with 5.2 overs to spare.

Eventual Man of the Match Jonathan Carter, who made 68 not out, along with opener Justin Guillen 36, spearheaded the successful run chase.

Then, on Friday, left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul and pacer Shannon Gabriel picked up vital wickets as the West Indies A completed an uncomplicated 34-run win.

Captain Permaul snared 3 for 28 and Gabriel snapped up 3 for 31 as Bangladesh A was dismissed for 164, after being set a revised target of 198 off 45 overs.

This was due after rain intervened in the proceedings, with Bangladesh A chasing.

Taking first strike, the West Indies A got up to 204 for 9 off their 50 overs.

All-rounder Carlos Brathwaite topscored with 53 and Leon Johnson got 43. Brathwaite and Johnson combined with an 82-run sixth wicket partnership, as they extricated their team out of a sticky position of 56 for 5.

Jason Holder made a swift 34 off 28 balls, in which he struck two fours and two sixes, to bolster the lower order.

Off-spinner Shohag Gazi took 2 for 27, with medium pacer Robiul Islam 2 for 32, left-arm spinner Suhrawadi Shuvo 2 for 42 and fast bowler Kamrul Islam 2 for 61. They all finished with two wickets apiece.

West Indies won the two-match test series 1-1, while both teams finished one apiece in the T/20 match ups, which preceded the ODI’s.
