Teams jostling for quarter final places in Masters Cricket

The SVG Masters 20/20 Cricket Competition is nearing the quarter final stage, with teams jostling for positions.{{more}}

With the competition taking a break for the next two weekends to make way for the West Indies A versus Bangladesh A One day series, to be followed by the Windwards Senior Tournament, several teams are showing their heads in the two groups.

Arnos Vale heads Group A with 22 points, ahead of Stubbs on 20; with P’tani and Belfongo on 18 points each.

Kingstown leads Group B with 22 points, followed by North Leeward on 18, and Barrouallie and Police on 16 points.

Some of the front runners added to their tally last weekend, as six matches were completed.

On Sunday, Stubbs earned an eight wicket win over Bequia at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.

Bequia reached 116 for 9 from their 20 overs. Calvin Hazell hit 55. Theophilus Wallace grabbed 4 for 8, and Leon Samuel, 2 for 28.

In reply, Stubbs rushed to 118 for two from 12.2 overs, with Dawnley Joseph stroking 60 not out, and Leon Samuel contributing 31.

Also on Sunday at the Arnos Vale venue, Belfongo beat Bequia also by eight wickets.

Bequia got to 110 for 8 from their allotted overs. Erickson Browne topscored with 39. Samuel Holder snared 3 for 23, with Daniel McMillan and Junior Bacchus both finishing with two wickets each.

Belfongo replied with 115 for 2, Peter Campbell hit 49 not out, and Junior Bacchus made 29.

Also on Sunday, Barrouallie defeated Pastures by 50 runs at Buccament, in a match reduced to 15 overs because of rain.

Barrouallie made 84 for 3 from their allotted 15 overs. Orlando Charles slammed 52 not out.

Pastures was dismissed for 34 in 14.5 overs. Chester Hendrickson, Samuel Byam and Leniff Hector all took three wickets each Barrouallie.

Also at Buccament on Sunday, the defending champions RSVG Police beat up on North Leeward Combined by 62 runs.

RSVG Police posted 134 for 6 from their 20 overs.Trevor Bailey led the way with 40, while Jeffery La Borde added 35.

Walliston Stapleton and Federal Jeffery finished with two wickets apiece bowling for North Leeward Combined, dismissed for72.

William Edwards hit 20, as Calvin Glasgow captured 4 for 10, while Sam Francis and Parnel Browne claimed two wickets each bowling for Police.

Also, P’tani humbled London by 37 runs at the London Playing Field in 12 over contest, as rain had its say in the duration of the match.

P’ tani made 117 for 6 from their 12 overs, led by Jerome Samuel’s 36, and Alfred McKenzie’s 32.

Vernon Da Souza took 3 for 20 bowling for London, which reached 80 for 8. Winston Hoyte struck 28; Michael Jack, Adolphus Campbell and Jerome Samuel finished with two wickets each for P’ tani.

On Saturday at Arnos Vale Two, Sion Hill piled up 174 for 7 from 20 overs against Bickles Fun Masters.

Sylvannus Vanloo, 50, Augustine Victory, 34 not out, Enos Bushay, 27, and Colbert McDonald, 22, contributed to Sion Hill’s total.

Elvis Pompey, George Byron and Elberto Dublin each claimed two wickets for Bickles Fun Masters, then replied with 61 all out.

Joe Horne, 4 for 8, and Gary Rodriguez, 2 for 5, were the main wicket takers for Sion Hill. (RT)
