‘We need to win,’ says Rowe

‘We need to win,’ says Rowe

Technical Director and Head Coach of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Senior Football team Colwyn Rowe wants his charges to end their CONCACAF Group E{{more}} of the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers on a positive note, when they face Belize today, Tuesday, November 15, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Rowe wants to win on home soil, after both teams played to a 1-1 tie, last Friday in Belmopan, Belize.

“We need that win desperately”, Rowe told SEARCHLIGHT last Saturday, as the team was en route to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, following their Central American sojourn.

“I want us to come second in the group,” Rowe said in his deep British accent.

Going into today’s match, St. Vincent and the Grenadines is on five points from their five matches. Belize can leap from St. Vincent and the Grenadines with a result in their favour, and finish second, ahead of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Belize has four points from their five matches and is third.

This is against the permutation that Grenada, which is on four points, and last in the four team grouping, will lose to Guatemala, which is on maximum fifteen points.

Guatemala has advanced to the next phase, where they will meet Jamaica, the USA and Antigua and Barbuda.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize and Grenada are eliminated from the qualifiers, and are playing for pride.

Depleted team

But while Rowe is optimistic, he will have to do without three of his customary starters.

Out for today’s match are Captain Cornelius Huggins, along with Jolanshoy Mc Dowall, Shemmol Trimmingham and Chad Balcombe.

Huggins, Mc Dowall and Balcombe picked up second yellow cards last Friday, and are ruled out.

Trimmingham was red carded last Friday, for two bookable offences, by Barbadian Referee, Adrian Skeete.

The other Vincentian to be booked by Skeete was second half substitute, Akeeno Hazelwood.

Apart from the suspensions, others are carrying injuries, while some who started in the training squad have become uninterested.

Rowe, however, believes that despite having to do without the suspended players and those who are unavailable; his charges can get the job done.

Other fixtures

In other matches in the CONCACAF Zone for today, Grenada hosts Guatemala; Antigua and Barbuda is away to Haiti; Trinidad and Tobago hosts Guyana. Canada hosts St. Kitts and Nevis, with Suriname being away to El Salvador.

Panama hosts Dominica and Curacao plays the US Virgin Islands in Curacao.

Three matches were also set for yesterday. Barbados was scheduled to meet Bermuda in Bermuda, Cayman Islands was to have hosted the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico was to be at home to St. Lucia. (RT)
