Starlights shine over Ajuba

The youthful Carlos James Troumaca Starlights upset the more experienced Ajuba of Spring Village with a nine-wicket victory last Sunday in the Vinlec North Leeward Sports Association T/20 Cricket Competition at the Petit Bordel Playing Field.{{more}}

Batting first, Ajuba made 104 all out off 17.1 overs. Kentish John took 4 for 20, including the tournament’s first hat-trick. Dorson Cottle aided with 3 for 21.

Troumaca Starlights responded manfully with 109 for 1 off 12.1 overs. Leshawn Lewis crafted 68 not out, to lead his team to an unexpected triumph.

In the Sunday’s first game, Somerset defeated Ajuba by 65 runs, as the Spring Village team suffered its first blow in what turned out to be back to back defeats.

Somerset posted 188 for 7 off 20 overs, led by Orlando Charles’ 93, which is the highest individual total in an innings for the season thus far. Kevin Small chimed in with 25.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards fast bowler Kesrick Williams picked up 3 for 29.

At their turn, Ajuba fell for 123 off 17.3 overs. Kesrick Williams hit a topscore of 30 and Ronneil Jeffery made 26. Kevin Small took 3 for 21, Ralmore Pierre, 2 for 12, Rilan Mckie, 2 for 38, and Nelson Williams, 2 for 41.

The scheduled match between Sharps United and defending champions Carlos James Troumaca United last Saturday was abandoned because of rain

The tournament continues this weekend with quarter-finals on Saturday and Sunday.(RT)
