AVENUES TOPS SVGFF AWARDS
Avenues United Football Club pocketed $11,000 in total, and secured two individual awards, when the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) staged its awards ceremony{{more}} for its 2010-2011 National Lotteries Authority National Club Championships, which was staged last Saturday night at the Banquet Hall of the Golden Apple Building.
Avenues gained $8,000 for retaining the Premier Division title and added another $3,000 for their hold on the FF Cup.
In addition, Avenuesâ goalkeeper Dwayne Sandy was named Best Goalkeeper, with his team mate Myron Samuel adjudged Best Striker and the Most Outstanding Player in the Premier Division.
Glenford Ashton of second place GTM Prospect United, was named the Best Defender.
Prospect, for their final placing, earned $6,000. Third place Hope International was awarded $4,500 and fourth place finisher, System Three, $3,000.
Similar awards were also presented in the First Division and the Womenâs Division.
Taking the award for the Best Goalkeeper in the First Division was Brownstownâs Cassius Franklyn, with Ivan Clarke also of Brownstown, the Best Defender. Kemron Osment of Carib Warriors was named the Best Striker and Most Outstanding Player.
Carib Warriors won the First Division and earned themselves $4,000; second place Parkside Rollers received $3,000, while Sea Operations Greiggs settled in third position with $2,000.
Brownstown, the runner-up team in the FF Cup, earned $1,500.
In the Womenâs Division, it was a clean sweep for champion team, Dig Deep Warriors, as Shree Ann John was named the Best Goalkeeper,
Menalva Stapleton, the Best Defender and Jasmine Browne, the Best Striker.
Dig Deep Warriors was awarded $3,000 for placing first and Je Belle, $1,500 for placing second.
Barrouallie snapped up the award for the Most Improved Team.
Apart from the awards, there were remarks from Jules Anthony, who gave an overview of the championships, Nelson Hillocks, who stood in for Frederick Stephenson, Minister of National Mobilisation, Youth, Sports, etc. and President of the SVGFF Joseph Delves.
Technical Director of the SVGFF Colwyn Rowe delivered the feature address, in which he spoke on the topic : âDeveloping a culture of Excellenceâ.(RT)
