Windwards senior selectors baffling
The Windward Islands senior cricket selectors, St. Lucian Julian Charles, Dominican Charles Walters and Vincentian Stanley Hinds, have created an anomaly in their selection of the four island groupingâs squad for the next regional Twenty/20 competition.{{more}}
The selectors, following the Windwards T/20 competition, which was played in Dominica, two weeks ago, came up with a 25-member provisional squad, and six others up for consideration.
However, among the six are two Vincentians in Kesrick Williams and Atticus Browne, both of whom were not selected as part of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines team to the Windwards competition.
Williams, a right arm fast bowler, made his first class debut for the Windwards in the 2011 four-day regional competition, as did Browne, a left-handed opening batsman.
It is more baffling that Hinds is also part of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines selection panel, which did not see the two making the final cut for their home territory.
Among the six up for consideration is St. Lucian Darren Sammy, who is also the West Indies captain, who was excused from playing in the competition, because of a slight shoulder injury.
Dominican Shane Shillingford is in. Shillingford, a right arm off spinner is undergoing remodelling of his bowling action.
Shillingfordâs countryman, Mervyn Matthew, missed the competition, as he was undergoing medical treatment in the United States.
The six is completed by Vincentians Keiron Cottoy and Dellorn Johnson. Cottoy, a right arm leg spinner, and Johnson, a left arm medium fast bowler, are attending the Sagicor High Performance Center in Barbados.
Meanwhile, four Vincentians are the first choices of the selectors in the provisional squad.
The four are Kenroy Peters, Donwell Hector, Hyron Shallow and Lindon James.
Tyrone Theophile, Kaveem Hodge, Kevin James, Vincent Lewis, Liam Sebastian and Samuel Mitchell are the six Dominicans selected, with St. Lucians Dalton Polius, Keddy Lesporis, Xavier Gabriel, Gairy Mathurin, Johnson Charles and Denis Louis also included.
Andre Fletcher, Devon Smith, Nellon Pascal, Kade Carmichael, Denis George and Lindon Lawrence are the Grenadians who complete the 25-member squad.
