Ambris scoops most awards
St. Vincent and the Grenadines Under-19 and senior middle order batsman Sunil Ambris scooped up three of the individual awards in the United Insurance Secondary Schools Competition,{{more}} which ended Wednesday, June 1, at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field.
Ambris, at the presentation ceremony, which followed the exciting final between the Georgetown Secondary School and the George Stephens Secondary School, collected the trophies for the highest individual score, the most runs and the best all rounder.
Ambris, of the St. Vincent Grammar School, lashed the highest individual score, 160, versus a former champion school, the Mountain View Academy, and finished with 215 runs to his name, which was the highest by any batsman.
Ambris showed his all-round ability as he snared 18 wickets, to cop the best all-rounder award.
Anthony Harper, of the Georgetown Secondary, had the best bowling figures, 6 for 9, which he took against the North Union Secondary.
In the main matter of the day, George Stephens batted first and scored 162 all out, in 38.5 overs. Damian Barnum hit 31 and Romano Grant and Cosroy Cuffy, both hit 26.
Ray Jordan led his team with 4 for 28 and Anthony Harper 3 for 24.
Jordanâs four wicket haul, pushed his tally to 18, which earned him the most wickets award.
In a gritty fashion, Georgetownâs response was left to the penultimate ball, as Ray Jordan squatted to the wide mid-on boundary for four, to send their supporters in a frenzy.
Player of the Final Ray Jordan played a captainâs knock, as he led his team to 164 for 8, with his individual score being 39 not out.
Asif Hooper took 3 for 23 and Wesley Williams 3 for 31.
The George Stephens Secondary School won Zone A, the Thomas Saunders Secondary took Zone B,the St. Vincent Grammar School won Zone C, and the Petit Bordel Secondary copped the Zone D award.
Nineteen schools participated in the competition.
