Cato holds firm to TT title
Davon Cato emerged as Singles champion and was voted the Most Valuable Player of the Scotia Bank Business Houses/Firms Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy Table Tennis Competition which concluded last Tuesday evening at the Kingstown Anglican School Annex.{{more}}
In the final, Cato defeated Collin Cambridge 11-5, 4-11, 11-4, 11-4.
In the semi finals, Cato had seen off Jeff Trotman 11-11-7 11-4, and Cambridge beat Alford Collis 11-7, 11-6, 11-8.
Cato was also in winnerâs row again, as he, along with Korbet Crick and Rudi Daniel, of the grouping Excel Media, took the team title, beating Media Writers 3-1. Cato got past Cambridge and Jeff Trotman, and Daniel overcame Junior Byron- Cox, with Cambridge defeating Crick in Media Writers lone triumph.
In the teamâs semi finals which preceded last Tuesdayâs final, Excel Media humbled Frank B Armstrong Better Brands, 3-0, with Media Writers emerging winners at the expense of Sagicor Insurance, also by the same scoreline.
Cambridge made sure that he did not leave the facility empty handed as he and Jeff Trotman, spoiled Catoâs clean sweep of the titles at stake by taking the Doubles.
Cambridge and Trotman disposed of Cato and Rudi Daniel 7-11, 11-7, 11-6.
In the Doubles semifinals, Jeff Trotman and Cambridge got the better of Tyrone Jack and Giles Garraway 11-6 , 11-8, 11-9, while the duo of Davon Cato and Rudi Daniel beat the pair of Mark Charles and Alford Collis 9-11, 11-5 , 11-3, 11-5.
Anton Lewis of Stangro was adjudged the Most Improved Player.
Sean Stanley speaking at last Tuesdayâs closing and presentation ceremony said that he saw an improvement in the standard of play over last yearâs inaugural competition.
Stanley hailed the 2011 edition âa huge successâ.
