The Final featured the league champions for two consecutive seasons Avenues, and Brownstown, a First Division team from the Georgetown area, which placed eighth in the National Club Championships twelve- team league table.
Avenues opened its account in the 15th minute through Romano Snagg, but this did not deter the Brownstown team, which brought the attack to its more accomplished opponents.
However, it was Avenues which sealed the deal in the 60th minute, when Damal Francis timed his run perfectly to tap in from close range. But this was not before a barrage of forays from Brownstown, including a save off the line from Avenuesâ custodian Dwayne Sandy, took place.
The win by Avenues meant that they have played unbeaten in all national Football competitions since 2009.
It was another sweet triumph for the Paulâsâ Avenue-based club, according to Manager Marvin Fraser.
Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT soon after the double was realized, Fraser said: âWe are elated to have won the league twice, playing undefeated for two years straightâ.
Fraser said the success of the team was not only on the field.
âWe have a lot of supporters. Thanks to the fans. Special thanks Mr. Julian Francis who came to our assistance. And we just came out here tonight to do the double, and which we did. It was a wonderful team effort, as we had good team spirit, â a smiling Fraser stated.
Winning the league title qualifies Avenues to take part in the Caribbean Football Unionâs championships next year, but Fraser said that his organization is uncertain whether it will undertake the task for a second time.
Avenues, by virtue of placing first in the 2009 National Club Championships, qualified for the 2012 regional club competition, reaching the second-round phase.
The other Vincentian participant was System 3, which also got to the second phase.
Looking towards the 2012 CFU/ CONCACAF Club Championships, Fraser said: âWe are a bit tentative about participating in it because of the bad experiences that we had last time around, especially when it came to support from the Vincentian public, especially from an FF (Football Federation) perspective.
âRight now, we are taking it one day at a timeâ, Fraser ended.
Second-placed club GTM Prospect is the other Vincentian entrant to next yearâs regional competition.
