Twins create local Junior Tennis history
The National Easter Junior Tennis Championships served up a piece of local tennis history, as it was the first time in which two sets of twins appeared in a Doubles Final.{{more}}
Creating that history were Denee and Luka Lyttle and Amarlia and Gabrielle Benn, who squared off in the Girlsâ Under-14 Doubles Final. But it was the Lyttles who triumphed over the Benns.
This piece of trivia was made known when at the Closing and Presentation Ceremony which took place on Thursday, April 7, at the National Tennis Centre at Villa.
Gabriella Benn took the Girlsâ Under -12 Singles when she got past Amarlia, again in an all-sister affair.
In the Girlsâ Under-14 Singles final, Chelsea Haslam overcame Denee Lyttle to take the title, with Imani King taking the Boysâ version of that age group.
Khimasi Bascombe won the Boysâ Under-10, and Beyonce Winter- Malcolm, the Girlsâ Under-10.
Julio Francis won the Boysâ Under-16, and Daneya Charles pocketed both the Girlsâ Under-16 and Under-18 titles. Rafai Bentick won the Boysâ Under-18.
Taking the Boysâ Under-14 Doubles were Imani King and Delon Pompey, with Julio Francis and Kevin Huggins triumphing in the Boysâ Under-18 Doubles.
The tournament organisers also recognised Savvy Samuel and Richard Hoyte, both members of the Grassroot Tennis Club, and who have been playing tennis for just over a year, as the Most Promising Under-12 and Under-14, respectively.
And, taking away the coveted Challenge Trophy was Imani King for his contribution on and off the court. (RT)
