Under-15 cricketers head to Dominica
St. Vincent and the Grenadines Under -15 Cricket Team leaves here tomorrow, Wednesday, April 13, for Dominica for the Windwards Under-15 Tournament.{{more}}
The 13-member team is bolstered by two players from the last squad, which was way back in 2009, as there was no edition in 2010.
Returning are Captain Gidron Pope and wicketkeeper Anson Latchman, who has been named Vice Captain. Latchman was also part of the team in 2008. The rest of the team comprises of Terron Barnum, Dominic DaSilva, Omari Sutherland, Cruz Young, Dilwarth Thomas, Kimani Williams, Valroy Pompey, Sydney Thomas, Cyprian Isaacs, Kimani May and Jurani Baptiste.
Four players have been named as reserves: Shamon Hooper, Glenroy Jacobs, Jamie Liverpool and Wildonrick Samuel. Samuel Holder remains as the teamâs Manager.
Coach of the team, Ortis Jack, told SEARCHLIGHT last Saturday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, that he was not prepared to make unrealistic expectations, but is assured that there will be improvements in the teamâs placing from its last outing.
In 2009, St. Vincent and the Grenadines placed third, and the previous year, finished at the bottom of the standings, losing all six matches, when the tournament was staged here.
Jack, who has coached the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Under-15 team to four Windward Islands titles, 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002, does not rule out another in the 2011 version.
Jack, who also has two West Indies Under-23 Womenâs titles under his belt, done in 2001 and 2002, as well as two Windwards Under-19 titles, achieved in 2007 and 2008, gave the assurance that his young charges would give of their best.
The tournament matches are of 50 overs duration and will be played in two rounds.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines faces defending champion St. Lucia on Thursday at Portsmouth, and on Friday meets Dominica at Windsor Park.
The Vincentians take on Grenada on Sunday at Windsor Park and begin the second round against host Dominica at Portsmouth, next Monday, and engages St. Lucia at the same venue two days after. St. Vincent and the Grenadines plays Grenada on Thursday, April 21, also at Portsmouth.
The team returns the following day. (RT)
