Avenues completed their quota of matches for the 2010-2011 championships last Friday night at the Victoria Park, when they engaged Pastures United.
Already assured of retaining the title, Avenues, appearing complacent, allowed Pastures to bring the game to them. The champions had to ward off a determined Pastures outfit.
The match finished 2-2, with Avenuesâ prolific striker Myron Samuel adding another to his tally, and Kyle Ragguette, the other. Pastures, which was promoted to the 2010-2011 Tournament, by virtue of winning the 2009 First Division title, got their goals from Reginald Richardson and Gideon Edwards.
Avenues finished on 29 points from their 11 matches and ended with a healthy goal difference of 48 goals.
Pastures ended with 12 points and claimed the eighth spot in the12-team table.
Winning the local competition is the only accolade that was there for Avenues, as the incentive of representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the Caribbean Football Unionâs Club Championships was no longer on the cards, as the competition had already begun.
The National Club Championships started last year, and the winner was not decided in time for the February 28 deadline established for qualification for the regional outing.
Avenues, along with System 3, represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the 2010 competition. Both clubs reached the second round of competition.
Also, last Friday night, System 3 eased past Jebelle 3-2, to cop the fourth spot, with 20 points, toppling Jebelle on a superior goal difference, as both had the same number of points.
Azhino Solomon scored a brace and Jerold Stapleton, the other goal for System 3.
Brothers Kendall Velox and Thaddeus Sam converted for Jebelle, as their team finished in fifth position.
Hope International and GTM Prospect are battling for the second and third places. The two are set to meet later this week in the decider. (RT)
