SVG names Carifta team
Brandon Parris, one of the outstanding athletes at the just concluded Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championships, will lead the St. Vincent and the Grenadines team to the Junior Carifta Games{{more}} set for Montego Bay, Jamaica, from April 23 to 25.
Parris, a student of the champion school, the Thomas Saunders Secondary, won all his races last week Thursday, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.
He took the Male Under-17 400m, 800m, and the 1500m events. Parris clocked 51.35 seconds in the 400m. In the 800m, his time was two minutes 03.29 seconds, and in the 1500m, Parris clocked four minutes 26.89 seconds.
Parris was also a lead player in his teamâs capture of the Male Under-17 4x400m.
The other members of the team are Nicky Ann Stephens, Shanel Mc Kie and Ezra Samuel.
Like Parris, Stephens and Mc Kie were headliners at the Inter Secondary Schools Championships.
Stephens, also of the Thomas Saunders Secondary, was the Female Under-17 champion at the championships, after she took High Jump with a height of 1.4m, the Long Jump in 5.23m and the Triple Jump in 10.34m.
Female Under-21 champion and joint Victrix Ludorum, Shanel Mc Kie of the Petit Bordel Secondary, won the Shot Putt with a distance of 10.06m, the Discus, with a throw of 28.83m, the High Jump with a height of 1.45m, and the Triple Jump leap of 9.79m. Also at last weekâs championships, Mc Kie finished second in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.59m.
The other member of the team is distance athlete Ezra Samuel, who attends the St. Vincent Technical College.
