The Thomas Saunders Secondary School is still on a high, after it ran away with both the male and female division titles of the National Lotteries Authority, St. Vincent Corrugated Container Inc. Inter Schools Athletics Championships,{{more}} at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, last Thursday, March 31.
The five-and-a-half-year-old institution retained the male championship, which they first won last year, and added the female segment to establish their dominance in secondary schoolsâ track and field in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The males accumulated 291 points and the females put together 180 points.
Continuing their dominance in the Championships, the Thomas Saunders Secondary copped the two Intermediate titles, through Nicky Ann Stephens, who won the female division with 32 points and Renaldo Charles, who compiled 48 points.
Stephens triumphed in the High Jump, Long Jump and the Triple Jump events.
Charles was victorious in the 100 and 200M, the Shot Putt and the Long Jump, and finished third in the Triple Jump.
Another outstanding performer in the male Under-17 was Thomas Saundersâ Brandon Parris, who claimed victories in the 400, 800 and 1500M.
Parrisâ times in the three events were faster than the corresponding senior male winner.
Parris broke the 800M record, which stood at 2 minutes 06.46 seconds. This was set by Noel Samuel of the Emmanuel High School in 1997. Parrisâ new mark stands at 2 minutes 03. 39 seconds.
The Thomas Saunders quartet of Paris, Charles, Najee Israel and Abiola Hinds, erased the 4X400M Under-17 record, clocking 3 minutes 36.1 seconds, leaving behind the old mark of 3 minutes 38.88 seconds, which was set by the St. Vincent Grammar School in 2004.
Other outstanding performances saw the Petit Bordel Secondaryâs duo of Shanel Mc Kie and Yurnic Nanton scooping the senior championâs awards. Mc Kie was the female winner with 47 points and Nanton, 29 points.
Mc Kie was first in the Shot Putt, Discus, High Jump and Triple Jump; she was second in the Long Jump and placed fourth in the 100M; Nanton took the 400M,800M, 1500M and the Open 5000M.
Lennisha Olliver of the Bethel High School was the Female Junior champion with 47 points and the Junior Male champion was Dominique Pierre of the Union Island Secondary. Pierre totaled 27 points.
Oliver captured the High Jump, the 200M and the 400M, and was second in both the 100M and the Long Jump.
Oliver and Mc Kie shared the Victrix Ludorum title and Charles was the Victor Ludorum.
