Junior Tennis players show their worth

The tennis players from the Grassroot Tennis Club’s first Easter Tournament, who showed promising talents, were rewarded last Saturday afternoon at the Closing and Presentation ceremony, held at the club’s headquarters on Murray’s Road.{{more}}

Following one week of competition and participation by 89 players, Alesha Culzac claimed the Girls Under-6 title, and Zaria Jack was the runner-up.

In the Boys Under-6, the winner was Machado Joseph and the runner-up, Che’ Connell.

Pemetra Fernandez copped the Girls Under-8, with Giacee Stevens the runner-up.

Claiming the Boys Under-8 singles was Rio Connell, and second was Akiel De Roche.

Kamara Williams triumphed in the Girls Under-10, leaving Justina Richardson to take second place.

Savvy Samuel won the Boys Under-10, with Miguel Francis second.

Taking the Girls Under-12 was Delisia Fernandez and Xaria Young was the runner-up.

The Boys Under-12 winner was Richard Hoyte and Rondell Williams was second.

Two other awards were presented: to Rondell Williams, who was adjudged the Most Promising Male Player and Querise Thomas, the Most Promising Female Player.

Tournament Director Onike Spann, who conducted his maiden tournament, said he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and urged parents to support their children by attending matches.

Last Saturday’s ceremony was also addressed by President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association (SVGTA) Anthony Mc Kenzie, former President of the SVGTA Mike Nanton, and Head of the Grassroot Tennis Club Grant Connell, who has also headed of the SVGTA. (RT)
