It was felt that all involved in the sport needed to lift their standard, including a change in attitude towards all aspects of cycling.
They were also challenged to not only talk the talk, but to walk the walk. Several decisions were also taken to ensure that 2011 is better than last year.
There is a plan to re-introduce an entry fee for races, and ensure that cyclists are licensed for 2011, in keeping with the cycling regulations.
Additionally, it was thought that it was time for the commencement of a review of the SVG Cycling Unionâs Constitution, as well as for establishing a data-base for the union. It was felt that there is a need to establish a cordial relationship with the new Minister of National Mobilisation, Social Development, Family, Persons with Disabilities, Youth, Sports and Culture Frederick Stephenson.
Also, the SVG Cycling Union wants to forge relationships with other national sporting bodies, namely the Swimming and Athletics Associations.
The year 2011 should also see the SVG Cycling Union re-introducing a Triathlon event, establishing a Grassroots Programme with schools, and improving its fundraising efforts.
The camp and retreat, which was staged at the Bay Hill Apartments, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, also saw lecture sessions.
Dr. Edmund Sealey looked at Health Care for sportsmen, with specific focus on diet, while Keith Joseph delivered on the topic of Communications.
Cheryl Evans looked at the issue of Personal Development. Also, at last weekendâs programme the 2011 calendar of activities for the Cycling Union was also finalised.
The camp and retreat was attended by most of the active cyclists here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and was sponsored by the National Olympic Committee. (RT)
