Police regain Masters Cricket title
RSVG Police last Sunday regained the SVG Masters Cricket title at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.{{more}}
Having won the 2007 title, the law officers crafted the 2010 version in convincing fashion.
Elgin Richards, who was later named Player of the Final, with his bowling figures of 3 for 12, from three overs, Sigmund Allen, 2 for 14, and Calvin Glasgow, 2 for 14, conjured up to dismiss Tropical Shipping Stubbs to 65 all out.
Police reached 69 for 3, with Oneil Thomas scoring 29 and Parnell Browne, 20 not out, to win by seven wickets.
Thomas added the play of the day, the run out of Samuel Williams, with a direct hit from the boundary, to his efforts.
Police pocketed $1,200, and Stubbs $800.
Last Sundayâs final was the third occasion both teams were meeting in the finals of the competition, with 2007 and 2008, the others.
When it was time for the Presentation Ceremony, it was Gosnel Cupid of RSVG Police who copped the major award of Most Valuable Player of the Competition. He also the scored the most runs, 421.
The most wickets, 21, were taken by Godfrey Brewster, of Stubbs.
Two bowlers, Parnell Browne and Winston Peters, of Police and Pastures, respectively, were the ones who grabbed five wickets in a match.
Wallistan Stapleton of Ajuba was the lone centurion, with Jimmy Sam of the dethroned champions, Log Enterprises Kingstown, rewarded for taking the lone hat trick on the competition.
Emerging winners of Zone A was Computec Belfongo, and in Zone B was Kingstown.
There were also awards for the Most Valuable Player of each of the competing teams.
For Ajuba -Walliston Stapleton, C.K. Greaves Vintage Arnos Vale-McNeil Morgan. Computec Belfongo- Elton Williams, Joyetteâs Auto Slater Development Pastures- Anthony Trimingham, London – Lauren Baptiste, St. Vincent Co-operative Bank Pâtani -Jerome Samuel and for North Leeward, the recipient was Orville Franklyn.
Joseph Medford took the award for Log Enterprises Kingstown, Gosnel Cupid received that for RSVG Police, with Nigel Frederick doing so for Rudyâs Electrical Barrouallie; for Sion Hill it was Sylvester Vanloo, while Godfrey Brewster was the awardee for Tropical Shipping Stubbs, for Dasent Cottage, it was Rohan Mc Lean, so was Ellis Lavia for Bequia and Osbert Young for Buccament.(RT)
