Stubbs, Police go head to head in Masters T/20 Finals

Stubbs and Police are the two finalists of the SVG Masters T/20 Cricket Competition, which will take place this Sunday afternoon at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.{{more}}

However, organisers did not follow through on a suggestion offered to them by First Vice President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Elson Crick to stage the finals under the lights at Victoria Park.

Crick made the proposal at the opening of the 2010 competition on Saturday, August 21, at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field.

The grand finale was held over from last year, for several reasons, including the availability of venues, a cluster of other Cricket competitions, and the General Elections.

Sunday’s final brings together two former winners, and is a repeat of the 2007 and 2008 finals, which was won in dramatic fashion by Police in 2007 at the Grammar School Playing Field, with Stubbs turning the tables the following year at the Arnos Vale One venue.

Expected to play leading roles in Sunday’s finals are two former St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards batsmen in Dawnley Joseph of Stubbs, and Police’s Gosnel Cupid.

Joseph has shown his all round ability also with the ball.

Both have been the mainstay of their team’s batting throughout the preliminary round, with Christopher Campbell and Oneil Thomas doing supporting roles for Stubbs and Police, respectively.

En route to the finals, Stubbs beat Computec Belfongo by eight wickets in the semi finals, while Police recorded a 67 run win over the 2009 winner Log Enterprises Kingstown.

Stubbs, though, will have a chance to earn another title, as they are in the semi finals of the Sixes Competition, which kicks off the day’s activities which start at 11.00 a.m.

In this competition, Stubbs will start their innings in reply to the C.K.Greaves Vintage Arnos Vale’s score of 54 for no wicket. The winner meets Sion Hill in the first semi final. The second semi-final will be between St.Vincent Co-operative Bank P’ tani and Log Enterprises Kingstown.

The teams are vyeing for a winner’s purse of $600.

The Sixes Competition is also an unfinished affair from the opening day of the competition.

The presentation ceremony will take place following the conclusion of the Stubbs versus Police match.(RT)
