Top performers awarded

The top performers of the 2010 National Cricket Programme were rewarded for their efforts at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Annual Presentation and Awards Ceremony.{{more}}

Last Saturday night, December 18, the Methodist Church Hall, Kingstown, came alive as the cricketers received their awards.

Former West Indies team bowler Deighton Butler copped one of the major awards. He was awarded the Zepton Greaves trophy after being adjudged the Best All Rounder.

During the year, Butler in the RBTT Premier Division Competition, participating for MVC Rivals, scored 183 runs at an average of 45.75, and bagged 15 wickets, an average of 19.67.

Linden James, who led OLA Radcliffe to retention of the Premier Division title, recorded the best batting average, 85.00.

The Best Bowling Average was awarded to MVC Rivals’ Roland Wilkinson.

Dyke Cato, of OLA Boutique Radcliffe, snared the most wickets, 34, while Hyron Shallow of MVC Rivals scored the most runs, 452.

There were eight centuries scored in the top division, with Shallow scoring two, and James, one. There was also one each from Salvan Browne and Shacky Greene of Police Two; Harley Skerrit and Marvin Small of MVC Rivals; and Lauron Francois of Victors Two.

Andy Harper and Dellorn Johnson, both of OLA Radcliffe, captured 10 or more wickets in a match.

In the Bottlers First Division, Smashers’ Rawdon Bentick had the highest aggregate of runs, 327, and the Best Batting Average, 75.29 runs per innings.

Bentick scored two centuries, while his teammate Ronald Scott and Pastures’ Lawrence Shoy also scored triple figures.

Andre Hunte of ASCO One bagged the most wickets, 39, and Anthony Harper of Radcliffe Two, the Best Bowling Average, 6.00 per wicket.

Jami Lavia of Owia Stars, Felix Greaves of champions Eat Rite Saints, Vernardo Primus of ASCO One, and Augustus Mofford of Belmont United were the bowlers who captured 10 wickets or more in a match.

Joelano Neil of Neil Williams Academy was the lone bowler who took seven or more wickets in an innings.

The Best All Round Performance was captured by Brentley Edwards of Rivals Two. His 146 runs was at an average of 24. 33, along with his 14 wickets, taken at 10.36 each.

In the Glenroy “Hart” Durrant sponsored Zonal Under-15 Division, Shamon Hopper of champs North Leeward scored the most runs, 183. He also bagged the most wickets, 12. Hooper was voted the Most Valuable Player.

Kimali Williams of North Leeward had the Best Batting Average, 64, and Dominic Da Silva, of losing finalist, Central Windward, had the Best Bowling Average, 6.33.

Prizes were also presented to the top performers in the National Lotteries Neil Williams 20/20 Competition, which saw Desron Maloney of Combined Youths taking the awards for the Highest Individual score, 108. Maloney hit the Most Boundaries, 15 sixes and 9 fours. The Best Bowling award of 6 for 19, went to Atticus Browne of Victors One.

The highest individual score went to OLA Radcliffe’s Wayne Harper, with Joseph Carrington of champion team MVC Rivals’ leg side stumping, earning him the Player of the Final.

Cricket enthusiast Joseph Brackin received the Dr. Kenneth Antrobus Award. (RT)
