Vincentian Cricketers put to the sword

Defending Windward Islands Senior Cricket champions, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, must improve in their two upcoming matches, if they are to retain the title.{{more}}

The Vincentian bowlers were put to the sword in the opening match, which ended last Sunday, in Lauriston, Carriacou, in a no decision, after rain had a major say in the outcome.

Playing at the Windwards’ newest venue, the Vincentian bowlers were plundered by the Grenadian batsmen, led by Andre Fletcher, who slammed 204. Lindon Lawrence made 96, Heron Campbell 52 and Rudolph Paul hit 36.

Bowling for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Alston Bobb took 2 for 95, Deighton Butler 1 for 60, Dellorn Johnson 1 for 67 and Keiron Cottoy 1 for 74.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines was 102 for 3, when rain again interrupted. Atticus Browne was 40 not out, and Lindon James 18 not out. Denis George had 2 for 17.

In the other match, played at Progress Park on mainland Grenada, St. Lucia won on first innings over Dominica.

Dominica batted first and scored 184. Joel Maingot hit 38, Kristen Casimir 32. Johnson Joseph bagged 3 for 33, Xavier Gabriel 3 for 63, and Craig Emmanuel 2 for 35.

In response, St. Lucia got to 229 for 9. Keddy Lesporis and Johnson Charles both hit 48, Dalton Polius 36 , Alex Antoine 31 and Sergio Fedee 27. Bowling for Dominica, Mervin Matthew snared 4 for 39, Ray Casimir 2 for 69.

Batting a second time, Dominica was 125 for 9. Tyrone Theophile hit a topscore of 55, as Dalton Polius had figures of 6 for 38 and Alex Antoine 2 for 23.

Today, Tuesday, sees the start of the second round of three-day matches .St. Vincent and the Grenadines plays St. Lucia at Progress Park, and at the Grenada National Stadium, Grenada faces Dominica. (RT)
