SVG represented at WICWC Seminar

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) is seeking to promote several areas of technical development, through the Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF (WICWC) Programme.{{more}}

This country will receive funding for its proposal from the first quarter of 2011.

In the proposal is the plan to purchase a second set of mobile lights to complement the first, and to extend and provide lighted pitches for night games.

Last August, the Executive of the SVGFFF announced the arrival of the first set of mobile lights.

Other areas of technical development earmarked for immediate attention are the hiring of a goalkeeper coach, securing the services of a qualified coaching instructor, and the provision of stipends for regional coaches engaged with the Technical Director in the initial implementation of the Youth Development Programme.

Among the SVGFF’s plans is a proposal to host national youth competitions for male and female players 17 years old.

The local football body is also looking towards the provision of equipment to facilitate the introduction and spread of Futsal, a variant of football that is played on a smaller playing surface and mainly played indoors, as well as other training and development programmes for the youth.

The successful proposal was presented by two members of SVGFF’s Executive, General Secretary Ian Hypolite, and First Vice President with responsibility for Technical matters Ian Sardine, at a Seminar held last week at the Breezes Rio Bueno Resort and Spa, in Trelawny, Jamaica.

Hypolite told SEARCHLIGHT that his organisation wants to use the WICWC investment as a platform for community outreach.

He said that through the strengthening of local clubs the programme will also allow footballers to mobilise resources from within their own communities as they participate in strategic planning and asset management.

“This will create a nexus with local businesses in supporting and deriving benefits from what has emerged as the game of the people,” Hypolite stated.

The two-day seminar, which was convened on November 9 and 10, saw participation from 14 of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) member associations.

Apart from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the other CFU members represented were Aruba, Netherland Antilles, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Guyana, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, British Virgin Islands, Suriname and host Jamaica.

Leading the deliberations on the part of FIFA was Jurg Nepfer, Head of FIFA Education and Technical Division.

The WICWC Programme was established by FIFA in 2009 following the success of the Win In Africa Programme. It represents a developmental initiative funded by FIFA, targeting three areas: National League Development, Youth Development and Sports Education. (RT)
