Quartet continues to dominate road race

Lisa Daniel, Shamon Hooper, Nadia Delpesche and Ezra Samuel are yet to be beaten in three road races held so far in the Road Racing and Cross Country season of Team Athletics SVG.{{more}}

The four, last Sunday, added the North Windward 5k,which was run from Orange Hill to Sandy Bay, to their previous wins in the National Properties Cross Country race, and the Log Enterprises Sion Hill Sprint to their winnings.

Daniel made it three in a row in the Open Female, as she finished in 21 minutes 39.39 seconds, ahead of Sandrieka Hooper, whose time was 24 minutes 28.75 seconds. Third was Alicia Cox in 27 minutes 14. 46 seconds, as the trio made a clean sweep for the X- Cel Club.

Shamon Hooper once again dominated the Under-15 male category. The Petit Bordel student’s winning time was 20 minutes 34.85 seconds. His was trailed to the finish in second position by Jamal Williams of the Campden Park Secondary. Williams’ time was 20 minutes 43.07 seconds. Docking in third was the Bishop College’s Ryan John in 20 minutes 48.35 seconds.

Likewise, X- Ceed’s Nadia Delpesche was again in winner’s row in the Female Under-19. She outran her opponents to clock 22 minutes 43.02 seconds. Linda Mc Dowald of X-cel was second. Her time was 22 minutes 56.61 seconds, and third was Nean Hooper of the Petit Bordel Secondary in 29 minutes 44.08 seconds.

Ezra Samuel of the Division of Technical and Vocational Education of the SVG Community College was also among the quartet of repeat winners. Samuel crossed the finish line in 19 minutes 25.34 seconds to take the Male Under-19 title.

Antonio John of the Petit Bordel Secondary and Josnel Ashton of the Buccament Bay Secondary completed the top three in 19 minutes 40.52 seconds and 19 minutes 40.97 seconds, respectively.

There was a new winner in the Under-15 Females, which over the past two races was dominated by Fulicia Creese. This time around, the winner was Tara Joseph of the Adelphi Secondary School. Joseph’s time was 26 minutes 22.99 seconds. Chantal John of the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown was second in 29 minutes 35.21 seconds, with the Georgetown Secondary School’s Kishonique John, third, in 35 minutes 21.32 seconds.

The Open Male segment also saw a reshuffling of positions, as Dwight Baptiste led the pack in 17 minutes 56.48 seconds, turning the tide on Yurnic Nanton, who the previous weekend blazed the Sion Hill Sprint. Nanton had to settle for third, in 18 minutes 20.11 seconds. Baptiste and Nanton sandwiched Jolan Cato in the second spot. Cato’s time was 18 minutes 12.57 seconds. They made it one, two, three for the X-Cel clan.

Fifty-nine athletes started the race, with fifty-seven finishing.

This Sunday will see the All Sports Race put on by the National Olympic Committee, which will take runners from the Arnos Vale Playing Field, up the Vigie Highway, on to the Fountain main road, then through the Villa/Fountain road, and back to the Arnos Vale Playing Field.(RT)
