Vincy Heat heads south
St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Football Team, dubbed Vincy Heat, will play Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and Haiti in Group F in the final qualifying stage of the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup.{{more}}
They will have to maintain their winning streak to book a place in the finals, which will held in Martinique during the month of December.
Group F, called the âGroup of Deathâ, opens on Tuesday, November 2, when the Vincentians go up against host Trinidad and Tobago from 7 p.m. at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain.
The game will be the second of a double-header, with Guyana facing Haiti from 5 p.m.
On November 4, Vincy Heat meets Haiti from 5 p.m, followed by a clash between Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
Two days later, the Vincentians face Guyana in the first of the double- header, with Trinidad and Tobago meeting Haiti thereafter.
Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti are previous winners.
The youthful St. Vincent and the Grenadines team is unbeaten, having trounced Montserrat 7-0 and drawn 1-1 and 0-0 with St. Kitts and Nevis and Barbados respectively, in the Group A action held here earlier this month.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines last reached the final of the competition in 2006, which was staged in Trinidad and Tobago.
Back then they beat Guyana 2-0, but lost to Cuba and Guadeloupe, 3-0 and 1-0 respectively, in what was called the Bobby Sookram zone of the finals.
Group E kicked off in Grenada on Friday, October 22, at the National Stadium. The host will take on St. Kitts and Nevis, Guadeloupe, and Group A winners, Puerto Rico.
The top two teams in each Group will proceed to the finals, and join current cup-holders, Jamaica, and host Martinique, on November 26, where this yearâs Digicel Caribbean Cup champions will be named.
The winners will pocket a whopping US $ 120, 000, the runner up $ 70, 000, the third place $50, 000, and the fourth place $30, 000.
Additionally, the four top places head to next yearâs CONCACAF Gold Cup to be staged in the USA. (RT)
