The league returns after an absence of a year, 2009, when the introduction of the National Lotteries Authority National Club Championships had impacted on it, forcing organizers to abort their plans.
This time around, there will be an emphasis on a single division, in which 12 teams will vie for honours. They are: Marija Powa Lynx, Browneâs Tri Star Richmond Hill United, Customs Sports Club, Stingers FC, Glen United, Sharpes United, System 3, Sion Hill, Samba, Caribbean Tyres Max Strikers, Hope International and Young Togs.
Saturdayâs opening saw the reintroduction of two units which were out of active football for several years. Back are Samba and Sion Hill.
The ceremony which also had the parade of teams, heard brief addresses from Chairman of the Leagueâs Organising Committee, Michael John; Hairoun Brand Manager, Kasai Simmons; Manager of the National Sports Council, Osbourne Browne; President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation, Joseph Delves and Minister of State in the Ministry of National Mobilisation, Sports, etc., Cecil Mc Kie.
Young Togs received a football, for being adjudged the Best Turned Out Team.
In the featured match that followed, the national senior team beat their Under-21 counterparts 2-1.
Both outfits are gearing up for regional friendly and competitive engagements this month, as well as in October and November.
Competition in the league shifted to the adjoining Arnos Vale Two on Monday. (RT)
