Bailey made his sentiments known at the Closing Ceremony of an International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) two-week Coaches Education and Certification System Course, which was staged at the Presidentâs Suite at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, last Saturday evening.
âGovernment is not spending enough money on sports here in St. Vincent and the Grenadinesâ, Bailey said.
Bailey outlined areas where there is need, including an Athletics track, a Football stadium, and a Cycling Velodrome.
âIt is high time that we get a synthetic track,â Bailey lamented.
Bailey further said that there is need for investment in every single sporting discipline.
Bailey proposed that central government gives each national association a minimum of EC$100,000 at the start of each year, to run their respective programmes.
âInvest in sports,â he repeated.
Bailey, a long standing member of the national body governing mainly Olympic sports, over the years has been clamouring for facilities for the different disciplines.
Bailey, who is head of the local Cycling Union and as well as the regional body, in previous fora, has called for an indoor facility which would serve Basketball, Table Tennis, Netball, Boxing and Volleyball.(RT)
