North Leeward secured a third consecutive lien on the Zonal Under-15 Cricket title,{{more}} when their bowlers strangled Central Windwardâs batting in the final played at the Sion Hill Playing Field last Saturday.
North Leewardâs spin trio of Caron Ballantyne, 3 for 20, Kimali Williams, 2 for 15, and Nigel Small, 2 for 19, restricted Central Windwardâs batting to 96 for 9 off their 30 overs.
Gidron Pope made 17 and Gilbert Thomas 16, in a losing cause.
Central Windward was replying to North Leewardâs 107 for 9, made off 30 overs, reduced from 40 because of a late start occasioned by a wet outfield following heavy rains all last week.
Steady batting by Shammon Hooper, who made 49, allowed the left hander to shepherd his team to some respectability, where boundaries were a premium on a sluggish outfield.
Nigel Small, who like Hooper, was part of last yearâs winning unit, contributed 17.
Gidron Pope was the pick of Central Windwardâs bowling with 3 for 17 and Dominic Da Silva, 2 for 15.
The other zones in the competition were North Windward, South Windward, Marriaqua, South Central Leeward, Kingstown and St. George.
From this zonal competition, a St. Vincent and the Grenadines team will be selected to play in this yearâs Windward Islands Under-15 tournament. (RT)
