SVGTTA holds play offs
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association staged its first in a series of play offs{{more}} last Saturday afternoon at the AVESCO Club House at Arnos Vale.
The play offs are being used to select the St. Vincent and the Grenadines team for the Commonwealth and Pan American Games.
Thirteen players were part of the first stage of play offs.
Newly appointed Technical Director of the SVGTTA, Khalique Bailey, revealed that there will be two other play offs, one on the first weekend of August, and the final one at the end of that same month.
Bailey said thereafter, the selected squad will undergo intense training and will be assigned a Fitness Coach.
The SVGTTA will also be cashing in on the services of International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Certified Coach Egyptâs Ahmed Dawlatly, who is no stranger to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, having been here before.
But at last Saturdayâs event, it was not all play, as Bob Roopnarine, former Secretary of both the Caribbean and Trinidad Table Tennis Associations gave an insightful interactive presentation complemented by slides on the laws of Table Tennis.
Also present was Ray Fermin of the South Zone of the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association. Fermin said he was interested in forming linkages with Table Tennis players here, so that reciprocal arrangements can be made. Both Roopnarine and Fermin served as the play off directors. (RT)
