It was Cane End’s second title for the 2010 edition, and on both occasions, Sea Operations Greiggs One had to settle for the second spot.

But last Sunday’s victory was the sweeter than that in the Knock Out competition, won one Sunday prior.

In front a festive crowd at the hexagonally shaped Biabou Playing Field, Cane End through the competition’s top goal scorer, Orande James, got the lead midway in the first half, minutes after he had muffed a simple opportunity.

James chalked up goal number 22.

But Greiggs had other ideas in the second half and pressed for the equalizer, and got it through a poked shot from the boot of Kenford Collins. The last twenty minutes of play were filled with aggression, as both teams went in search of the go ahead goal, which never came.

It was through nervy penalties that Cane End triumphed 3-1, as the Greiggs players did not capitalize on their kicks from the spot. Cane End won $1200, with Greiggs taking away $800.

Brighton Strike Force took the third spot over Rootsman Strikers, 6-2. Brighton pocketed $600.

In the individual awards, Rodney Thomas, of KFC Owia, was adjudged the Best Goal Keeper, with Cane End’s Mc Cauley Nanton voted the Best Defender.

Greiggs’ Philmore Mc Coy got the nod as the Best Midfielder. But the big award of the competition – Most Valuable Player was snapped up by Randolph Williams, of Brighton Strike Force.

Ghetto Flames took the award for the best outfitted team, with 1998 Hillside, adjudged as the Most Disciplined Team.

Fourteen teams participated in the Nine A Side competition. (RT)
