Cole heats up Happy Hill Climb

Shane Cole finished in position No.1, in the road bike category of the SVG Cycling Union’s three mile hill race held last Saturday from Barrouallie to Happy Hill in Layou.{{more}}

Cole took advantage of Shimano Bailey’s misfortune to finish in 12 minutes 58.11 seconds. In the process, Cole beat the veteran Peter Durrant into second place. Durrant’s time was 13 minutes 03.96 seconds. Third was Marlon Antrobus, who is slowly working his way back into form that saw him dominating the local circuit four years ago. He clocked 13 minutes 24.34 seconds.

The emerging Kenute George was fourth in 13 minutes 55.52 seconds. The other competitors were Lucky Antrobus, the younger brother of Marlon, who got a flat tyre . Bailey, despite his mechanical problems, finished the race with the use of a mountain bike.

In the mountain bike segment, first was Marlon Mc Intosh in 15 minutes 49.27 seconds. Sherwyn James was second in 17 minutes 53.18 seconds, and third, Jamal Hope in 19 minutes 17.21 seconds. Romario Beache finished a close fifth in 19 minutes 17.23 seconds.

Prizes for the top finishes were donated by Caribbean Shack of Barrouallie and Irie Travel.

It was race number four for the SVG Cycling Union’s 2010 calendar.

The next race is a two stage cycle classic set for tomorrow, Saturday, from Georgetown to Belmont.(RT)
