Premier Division Cricket title to be decided this weekend

The champions in the RBTT Premier Division of the national Cricket Competition will be known this weekend.

The Arnos Vale Two Playing Field is the venue for the match up between OLA Radcliffe and last year’s winner, MVC Rivals. Radcliffe, on 68 points, needs an outright win to single handedly clinch the title.{{more}} A win on first innings will see them share it with the News Spartans. Any other result will see Spartans taking the title all alone.

Spartans completed their quota of match with 76 points, losing to Radcliffe on first innings last weekend.

The combination of father and son, Dawnley Joseph, 35, and his off spring Dawnley Grant, 33, were the top batsmen for Spartans as they totalled 137 in the first innings. Mahlon John, 3 for 56, and Dyke Cato, 2 for 24, were the leading wicket takers for Radcliffe.

John then turned batsman, hitting a topscore of 56. Wayne Harper, 54, and Lynden James, 52, hit half centuries as Radcliffe replied with 239 for 9 declared. Joseph, 4 for 64, and his younger brother Micha Joseph, 3 for 54, bowling for Spartans. Batting a second time, Spartans was 48 for 3.

The other fixture this weekend sees Victors One meeting Irie Travel Packers at the Sion Hill Playing Field.

Bottlers First Division

The Neil Williams Academy gained first innings over Police One to reach the semi final stage.

Gosnel Cupid, 46, Lorne Adams, 37 and Parnell Browne, 26, saw Police One to 137. Kendol Hinds took 3 for 49 and Ian Allen, 2 for 8.

The Academy responded with 175 for 7. Zane Edwards, 68, and former Victors, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Windwards and West Indies fast bowler Allen knocked 61. Gerald Gould, 2 for 29, and Enken Richards, 2 for 31.

The Neil Williams Academy joins Police One from Group A and ASCO One and North Leeward from Group B. (RT)
