The British Navy has donated a uniform kit to the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation.

The kit, which comprises 18 gold jerseys, 18 blue shorts, 18 green with white trimming socks and 2 goal keeping outfits, was presented to President of the SVGFF, Joseph Delves, at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting staged last Saturday at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Conference Room.{{more}}

Presenting the kit, which carries the Hummel Brand, on behalf of the Navy was Senior Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the local Liaison Officer for the recruitment of Vincentians in the British armed forces, Earl Paynter.

Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT at the handing over, Paynter said that the Navy’s point man for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Andy Brown, is a huge Football fan, so it was not difficult for him to accept his solicitation for support for the SVGFF.

Paynter, also part of the SVGFF’s Technical Committee, revealed that the kit was supposed to have been here in time to be used by the Under-20 team in the Caribbean Zone Finals, staged here in January, but arrived late.

Delves, in accepting the kit, said he was thankful for the gesture and said that they will be put to good use.

Two members of the Vincy Heat team who were part of the Jamaica leg of the Digicel Championships in September 2006, Shawn Benjamin and Gerald Teroy Joseph, have since joined the British Navy. (RT)
