SVG to participate in OECS Table Tennis Championship

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association has announced a nine member delegation that will participate in the OECS Table Tennis Championship in St. Lucia from 14 – 16 November.{{more}}

The delegation comprises a four member male team – Carlton Daniel, Romano Spencer, Kavir Gaymes and Daryl Dickson; a two member female team of Natasha Shortte and Karen Browne; manager, Elliott Charles; coach, Robert Ballantyne and umpire/reporter, Jeff Trotman.

Meanwhile, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association has received a donation of $8, 357.55 from the National Lotteries Authority to participate in the OECS Table Tennis Championships.

In making the presentation on Monday, 4 November, at the office of the National Lotteries Authority, Paul’s Avenue, Anthony Denny said the donation is to assist with airfares, accommodation, uniforms and equipment. He said the National Lotteries Authority is happy to make the contribution and wished the team well.

President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association, Alonzo Primus, in thanking the National Lotteries Authority for making the contribution through the National Sports Council at very short notice, said table tennis players would appreciate the donation. He said the new Executive of the table tennis association is committed to running an organisation on the two primary pillars of transparency and accountability, and hopes to attract the widest participation of Vincentians in the activities of the association.

Secretary of the table tennis association, Paul Velox, was present at the simple ceremony. He also expressed appreciation for the donation.

He said the Association is working in conjunction with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the National Sports Council (NSC) to expand the game across the state. The Association plans to embark on Training sessions under the NOC Grassroots Talent Identification Program and will distribute equipment to communities around the state to encourage more youths to get involved in the sport. Velox also stated that the Association is currently involved in a membership drive and all interested persons are invited to join the table tennis association and contribute to the upliftment of the sport in the country.
