Can Mala stop Village?
Front runners, Village, are expected to get their sternest test thus far, when the bMobile Sion Hill Inter Village Football Competition resumes this Sunday at the Sion Hill Playing Field.{{more}}
Village, unbeaten in their three matches, have been the dominant team, taking out their opponents with much ease. They will face an improving Mala Village One, who sits in third position.
Village laced Mala Two, 14-1, stunned Bottom Roseau, 5-0, and disposed of Bay Hill, 5-1.
Mala One lost to Walvaroo One 2-3, in the competitionâs opener. They then beat Mala Two 10-1 and had a 6-0 drubbing of Walvaroo Two.
Village, apart from being the stand out team also boasts the competition leading goal scorer Juma Gilkes, who has seven goals to his name.
The other unbeaten team in the competition, Walvaroo One, has an inferior goal difference to Village and has been less potent.
The other team in the competition is Top Roseau.
The Inter Village competition signalled the return of competitive Football at the Sion Hill Playing Field, after refurbishing was done to the facility for Cricket World Cup 2007.
The last competition was staged in 2005, when the Pepsi Sion Hill League, which involved teams outside the Sion Hill area.
The Inter Village is an all Sion Hill affair as the community celebrates the return of the playing field, a facility that was created by residents themselves in the early 1970âs.
The Inter Village Football Competition is being held under the theme, âRebuilding our strong Community Spiritâ.
